Art has a language all its own. The language of my art is not limited to the dialogue between the process of painting and the surface of the canvas alone, but also embraces a dialogue between the viewer’s emotional experience and their perception through sight. When a subject is deemed “worthy” of being made into a work of art, the viewer has an opportunity to view that subject in a different way. It is important to me that I respect the viewer’s dignity, spirituality and humanity while conveying these messages predominantly through color, texture and representation.
As an artist, I am a musician of color, a dancer of technique and poet who writes tactile prose on blank canvas with palette and brush. It is both an honor and a responsibility to communicate in this way. Mine is the communication of but one voice. I want that message to be heard, seen felt and experienced
Judith Dunbar embraces the idea that “evolvement in art is never ending.” She has shed the more traditional genres of her past to experience a more abstract and intuitive direction. She explores oils, acrylics and mixed media with great enthusiasm and is in constant drive and desire to experiment with art’s limitless boundaries. She admittedly loves the way that paint builds on a canvas and she has a magnetic attraction to the use of color and form.
Her paintings are not about representation, but about essence. Judith Dunbar’s art, while being representational is without form creating a visual world where reality is mixed with images from her memory and fantasy. Judith continues a long-standing theme of painting skewed memories and blurred perspectives. There is always a struggle between the ambiguous and the recognizable yet each painting is tied to the present moment in the viewers feeling of “knowing that place”.
